Hei Tiki is seen in many cultures for thousands of years. The origin of Tiki may never be known and the true symbolic ideology lost but there are many stories and theories. In New Zealand one version is that Tiki and Tane were the creators of man.
Marsden jade is the most refined of the Kahurangi type jade also known as Flower jade. It is distinguished by its depth of translucency and strength of hardness. Its limitations are only restricted by the mind of the artist. The Tiki you see here is known as the carvers Marquette and holds all the correct proportions, symmetry and relative symbolism. Not normally for purchase as it is used as a teaching and process of reference.
