Aged Inanga Jade Roimata Earrings

Description

Aged Inanga from the Arahura River West Coast, South Island New Zealand. Very rare stone, smokey green and very translucent that has two tones with a lighter green at the bottom of the Roimata. 90mm in length they taper at the bottom. In folk law the shimmering and chatoyant nature of the jade represented the shallows of the river or sea, the dark spots and quivering dark lines are the eyes and bodies of Inanga (Whitebait) travelling towards the sanctuary of Tangaroa the god of the sea. Roimata are the tear shapes which represent healing and meditation.
