Description
Kahurangi Jade from the Arahura Awa (River) West Coast, South Island, New Zealand. This Nephrite is a treasured possession and sort after from carvers for it’s hardness and beauty – light green, translucent and with this piece flecks of gold. Kahurangi also means blue as in the phrase ‘Kahu o te Rangi’ meaning the cloak of the heavens. This toki is midway between the retangular and triangular, or subtriangular in shape. Some of the most symmetrical and best-finished adzes are of this form.
