Description

Great piece of Nelson Kokopu slightly darker than the West Coast variety but still a very tight and consistent jade with lovely coloration when seen through sunlight or lit up to expose it’s translucency. Naturally this is a small interpretation what would normally be a somewhat ferocious clever cross club like weapon known as a Mere Pounamu. Although these are a formidable weapon they were not used in battle instead they were used as a finishing strike to the unfortunate individuals temple. They were mostly in the possession of Chiefs or highly regarded Toa/Warrior. Large Mere could take many, many months to construct indeed some were not finished for years and often Mere were pasted down from generation to generation. They were prized by their enemy Chiefs as spoils of war items of status or Mana and regarded as items of great beauty, often having names.
