Description

A smaller adze pendant from the Totoweka variety of nephrite jade. Totoweka meaning blood of the Weka mainly because of the oxidization that has occurred in the jade mainly due to the high iron content, it gives a bloody streaked effect when held up to the light and exposing it’s translucency. This nephrite is found on the  South Island’s West Coast in the Hokitika region. It is a less common jade and was highly prized by Chiefs due to it’s streaked effect. Toki symbolizes strength, perseverance, skill and fulfillment.

E ai ki te whakatauki, Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu, he toanga

Even though it is small it is precious.
