Whakatu Blue Jade Kuru

Description

A beautiful blue Nephrite jade with plenty of dendrites which is found in the Nelson region, South Island, New Zealand.  This rare pounamu/jade is highly prized that has spiritual significance and can symbolize the bond between people.

“Taku kuru pounamu” is a Maori proverb, or whakatauki, that means “my precious adornment”. The phrase references kuru pounamu, which is a greenstone ornament that was highly valued and often worn by people of high status.  Kuru pounamu were often passed down as taonga/treasured heirlooms and given personal names.
