Description

A stunning Jade found in the Whakatu rohi Aotearoa (Nelson region New Zealand). Gold, red, blue and green making this jade very rare and unique with both sides of the pendant totally different. This piece represents the traditional whao or gouge used by the master carver to create the intricate designs and patterns seen on Waka Huia or Papahou, a form of glory box used to hold personable items. They would also be used in the manufacture of sacred taonga/treasures and carvings. The gouge symbolises skill, innovation and inner-balance of the physical and spiritual realms.
